Thu 25 Oct 2007 Denial ??

Often we stand at life’s crossroads and view what we think is the END, but God has a much bigger vision and He tells us “Relax, it is only a BEND”

This morning I was standing in the bathroom, naked and ready to jump into the shower. I had a real good look at my body. My tummy is fairly flat (which it has not been in months), still a bit of swelling from the surgery, my hips are slimmer than they have been in months, overall a good shaped body for my age. If you were to see my physically, you would not say that I had big surgery 10 days ago - I am moving around, look and feel good.

I cannot believe that my abdomen is full of cancer cells.

Today is a magic day in Cape Town weather wise - Anet came to fetch me and we had a stunning lunch at Hillcrest (a local wine and olive farm).

Hi! I came via Tertias blog to say hello to you and wish you well. I come from a long long line of cancer survivors. We have the BRCA1 gene in my family which hereditarily links us to breast and ovarian cancer. My mother herself is a three times cancer survior, one of those being ovarian. With an attitude like yours I have no doubt you are in with a fighting chance. Good luck to you and keep smiling. :)

Hi Alida,

I came over here from Tertia's blog. I am a 27-year old ovarian cancer survivor (stage 3a, grade I serous papillary). I also have a blog (which hasn't been updated in months, but I'm working on that), and it also has links to other ovarian cancer bloggers. You can find me at http://bombinmybelly.typepad.com. If you have any questions I can help you with, feel free to email me.

Best of luck.

Alicia

Hi Alida, so glad you seem to have had a better day today! Thought you would like to know that I copied your entire blog & sent it to Graham now. He has finish working & they are just decompressing, if all goes according to plan he should be home by Thursday next week. I obviously won't be home as I am working! Lots of love & strength, will give you a shout over the weekend, off to cycle in Franschoek tomorrow.

Hi Alida

I can't believe that this happened to someone like you. I have had a hard time dealing with it as you looked so healthy wne I saw you in Antwerp 2 weeks ago. I hope that you find lots of strength from all who love you. My prayers and love to Ian and the boys as well. Love Jean

Dear Alida
It is Friday! Sunny and green outside- a promise of a wonderful weekend!!
Denial, or hope? I think it is often not easy to distinguish between the two in a critical situation like yours, for others looking in. Hope, believing in something that we do not see... Denial, not seeing what we should...Congruence, being in touch with what you feel.. I wish you that today- congruence- and having the safety to say and be how you feel...we do not expect you to be strong if you do not feel like it... We will believe FOR you... enjoy the sun!!

Hi Alida, got my cup of coffee and now reading the blog. I am sure you are in good shape. Keep it this way. Thank God it's Friday. One more day of work and then we can start doing all the
homework :(. It's cold and grey in Belgium, but weather forecast says it will get better. Oef!
Take care and till tomorrow

Hi Alida, I think that along with the bubbly for breakfast occasionally ( good orange juice optional , you should have caviar on your French Toast - I like the red kind best.. have no idea what kind that is, just like the taste.

Have you ever made smoothies at home? Nice for when you need nutrition but don't feel like eating. Let me know when things are quieter at home and I'll come and show you a fab book I have on the subject..and I'll bring my smoothie machine...and berries.. and flax seed ..and oats..and green tea..sounds not so lekker I know, but they taste good I promise.

Have a powerfully, peacefully centered evening Alida.

Much Love
KarenF

Hi Alida,
Good to see the positive spirit. You have everyone on your side and with our thoughts and prayers, there can be no question that you are going to win.
Round 1 is successfully completed ....... good luck for round 2 on Monday.
Sorry but I won't be shaving my head. At my age, I'm worried that it won't grow back again.

Ian and boys .... hang in there. I know it can't be easy for you guys either. Keep the rooms tidy and do the dishes without being nagged.

Thinking of you ..... Derek
